Ab Februar, jeden ersten Montag im Monat, verwandelt sich ein Studio im Club Hybrid in einen Aufnahmeraum für den Podcast GRÄTZELGEREDE.

GRÄTZELGEREDE ist der Podcast, der dich über aktuelle Themen von, in und um Städte informiert. Gemeinsam sitzen Anna B und Jenny F im Club Hybrid und besprechen Fragen, die mit der Stadt als heute vorrangigen Lebensraum verbunden sind. Provokante, komplexe und dynamische Ideen und Konzepte zeigen uns wie engagierte Bürger:innen, Urbanist:innen, Architekt:innen, Landschaftsarchitekt:innen und Wissenschaftler:innen mit bedeutenden Problemen von Städten umgehen und was wir davon für die Zukunft lernen können.
Mit diesem Diskurs möchten wir die bewusste Wahrnehmung und Auseinandersetzung über die Qualitäten unserer Städte und des städtischen Lebensraums unterstützen, und gemeinsam neue Blickwinkel erforschen und Potentiale entdecken.

Nach dem ersten Treffen im Oktober gehen wir mit unserer Open Call-Konferenz am 14. November 2022 in die zweite Runde.

Zahlreiche Interessierte trafen sich im Club Hybrid und online, um die eingereichten Ideen, die wir über den Open Call TO-GATHER gesammelt haben, einander vorzustellen und uns gegenseitig kennenzulernen.

Über dreißig Projekte – Ausstellungen und Installationen, performative Interventionen und Theater, Workshops, Musikevents, Tauschparties, Gartenprojekte, Treffen von Vereinen und Sozialeinrichtungen und vieles mehr – wurden durchbesprochen und anschließend bei Pommes und Aperol Spritz diskutiert.

Am Montag 14. November 2022 geht es mit der Open Call-Konferenz in eine zweite Runde. Wir versuchen gemeinsam mit den Nutzer:innen des Club Hybrids im Jahr 2023, die Projekte und Ideen zu konkretisieren und dort, wo es Sinn macht, diese zu vernetzen.

Wie kann eine gemeinsame Nutzung des Club Hybrids funktionieren?

Können unterschiedliche Projekte und Ideen mit einander verbunden werden und Kooperationen entstehen?

suburban supertoy ist Projekt für Kinder in der Stadtagglomeration Graz. Es ist ein Spiel- und Werkzeug, ein ganzes Magazin voll von benutzbaren Gegenständen, die das Wahrnehmungsvermögen der Kinder schärfen, die Neugier zur räumlichen Aneignung wecken und ein reflektiertes Denken über die gebaute und umgebaute Umwelt fördern. Gemeinsam machen wir uns die urbanen Nebelzone spielerisch und gestaltend zu eigen und imaginieren so unsere eigenes Stückchen Stadt.

Mit der Idee der Wiedererrichtung eines Amts für Stadtentwicklung in Graz gestaltet die IG Architektur diese Woche eine Ausgabe der TALKING HEADS. Gleichzeitig beschließt sie ihre Baukulturausstellung im Club Hybrid. Auch das Finale der Architekturtage wird im Club begangen und zwar mit einer “Supplierstunde” und dem Release des neuen LAMA.

accomplices, der Verein zur Erkundung multimedialer Ausdrucksformen lädt am Sonntag 15. Mai 2022 zum Club-Nachmittag. Im Rahmen des Designmonat Graz 2022 wird der Text „Mixing Humans and Nonhumans Together: The Sociology of a Door-Closer“ von Jim Johnson erörtert. BesucherInnen können sich auf spannende, literarische Werke und tiefführende Diskussionen beim philosophischen Lesekreis freuen. Fragen stellen und Hinterfragen steht an oberster Stelle.

Davor ist die Tanzperformace “der lachende fuß” zu sehen in der Tänzerin Juliane Spannring und Sängerin Kristina Gorke mit Hilfe der Ausstattung Maria Morschitzkys die Geschichte eines Körpers erzählen, dessen Teile ein Eigenleben entwickeln.

Die Lese – Philosophischer Lesekreis – Designmonat Graz

Baukultur ist nicht Privatsache, sondern ein physisches Abbild unserer Gesellschaft. Ab heute ist am Club-Gelände eine Ausstellung der IG Architektur zu sehen, die in Kooperation mit dem Architekturfotografen Paul Ott scheinbar banale Alltagsbilder unseres gebauten Umfeldes zeigt und zur Diskussion stellt.

Wie und wo leben Menschen in ungewohnten, extremen Lebenssituationen?
Wie wohnen Menschen in der Stadt ohne Wohnung, und kann die Wohnung zur Stadt werden?
Wie kann der Wohnsitz beweglich werden?
Wie eingebunden oder ausgeschlossen sind diese Typologien im Stadtleben?

Die Motivation für Flucht und Migration ist Antwort auf eine unerträgliche Lebenssituation. Flüchtlinge, so Hannah Arendt, stellen durch ihr Zwitterdasein als Behauste, aber im bürgerlichen Sinne Rechtlose, die Koppelung von Geburt und Staatsbürgerrecht in Frage. Obwohl 1943 formuliert, ist ihre These heute so aktuell wie nie zuvor.

Derzeit haben sich mehr als 4 Millionen Menschen aus der Ukraine auf den Weg gemacht, sind auf der Flucht und suchen neue Räume, in denen sie vor Gewalt und Irrsinn geschützt sind und in denen sie auf unbestimmte Zeit leben können. Sie sind aber nicht die einzigen, die in Sonderwohnformen zuhause sind, das Spektrum reicht vom Obdachlosendorf, Isolationshotel, Pflegeheim, Kloster bis zur Justizanstalt.

Um solche Sonderwohnformen dreht sich diese Ausgabe der Gesprächsreihe TALKING HEADS zum Thema Ahnung und Planung.

Der Club Hybrid war im Sommer 2021 Werkstatt und Bühne für Formate, die urbane Teilhabe, Stadtentwicklung und Hybridität erprobten und diskutiereten.

Auch 2022 sind hybride Nutzungen des Ortes möglich und erwünscht – bevorzugt durch künstlerische, wissenschaftliche und aktivistische Projekte und Initiativen.

Der Demonstrativbau bietet Platz für kleinere Veranstaltungen, Workshops, Ausstellungen, Feste mit bis zu 120 Personen (outdoor).

Alle zwei Jahre wird dieser von der Stadt Graz an ArchitekturstudentInnen der TU Graz vergeben. Die Ausstellung findet nun Lockdown-bedingt nicht statt, die Preisverleihung schon: Morgen, 24. Der neue Termin für die Ausstellung wird bekannt gegeben, sobald er fest steht.

Ab Oktober nutzen diverse Institute der Fakultät für Architektur der TU Graz den Demonstrativbau in unterschiedlicher Art und Weise – als Bauplatz, Vorlesungsort, Ausstellungraum. Ganz in seinem Sinne also.

Den Beginn macht das KOEN – Institut für Grundlagen der Konstruktion und des Entwerfens mit seinem Beginners-Workshop am 5. Oktober. Rund 200 Studienanfänger:innen verbauen an diesem Tag die Freiflächen rund um den Club.

Neugierige sind willkommen. Zu sehen sind die Arbeiten bis Ende Oktober.

Die Grazer Sturmflut wurde 1996 in der Gruabn (Stadion des SK Graz) gegründet. Am 4. September feiert der Fanclub mit rund 300 Gästen sein 25-jähriges Jubiläum im Club Hybrid.

65 Programmtage liegen hinter uns – die Spielzeit des Club Hybrid im Rahmen des Graz Kulturjahr 2020 ist mit 15. August abgeschlossen. Der Club Hybrid geht in die Sommerpause.

FREI[BAD]FRITTEN, das Algenhaus, KOCHperformances, Terrestrial Fields in Urban Conditions, New European Bauhaus, Home Shop, Utopias of Change, der Club of Grind und mehr zum Finale.

Wir wollen baden! – das sagt Agency Apéro und kommt mit ihrer Installation FREI[BAD]FRITTEN in den Club Hybrid und die Stadt an der Mur. In dieser kommenden Programmwoche, die letzte im Rahmen des Graz Kulturjahr 2020, dreht sich daher vieles um Wasser. Und Pommes. Und um AHNUNG+PLANUNG. SPLITTERWERK, das asphalt-kollektiv und Studierende der Baukunstklasse an der Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste Stuttgart stellen uns spannende Projekte vor. Markus Bogensberger lädt zu einer Talking Heads-Runde über das EU-Programm New European Bauhaus und wird herausfinden, wie das Land der Häuslbauer dazu steht. Performatives zum Thema Kochen und Shopping kommt von Joanna Zabielska und Partner:innen und auch dem Samstagabend wird es an Dramatik nicht fehlen, wenn die Cooks of Grind zum CLUB OF GRIND laden.

Der Wolf im Schafspelz, Re-Use, Mis-Use, Evening Jam, Grazotopia-GrazPlanung – mit den Dingen spielen.

In dieser Woche spielen wir wieder – Folke Köbberling ist unser Wochengast und verpasst dem Club ein Kleid aus unbehandelter Schafwolle. Die Südfassade wird so Schauwand der Arbeit der Künstlerin, die zum Umgang mit Rohstoffen und Materialien im architekturbezogenen Kontext forscht. “Re-Use, Mis-Use” ist auch das Thema der mittwöchentlichen TALKING HEADS. Weiters präsentiert Ana Jeinić und das Forschungsteam der Grazotopia die Ergebnisse ihrer “GrazPlanung”.

Der Jodlklub aus Frankfurt präsentiert sein Programm main mountain, Oliver Elser holt seinen Vortrag zu WELT & MODELL nach. Die dieswöchigen TALKING HEADS thematisieren die Produktive Stadt, <rotor< kommt mit der Schule des Wir aus dem Annenviertel und der kunstraum_8020 feiert seinen Abschied und Neubeginn mit einem kulinarischen Abend. GreyNote lädt zum Malen und Tanzen und beendet wird die Woche im Club-Kino: Norbert Pfaffenpichler zeigt seinen dystopischen Slapstickfilm 2551.01.

Mit den Dingen spielen, BELL VIE – eine Performance, ein Episodenspiel, ein Kurzfilm, Unterhaltung als Part of the Game, der Grazer Kunstverein zieht in die Reflexion, Modern People klingt aus.

Unser Wochengast Lotte Schreiber macht den Club zum Filmset für ihr neues Projekt BELL VIE. Es wird nicht nur gedreht, sondern auch gelesen, performt, gemalt – ganz gemäß unserem Wochenthema: mit den Dingen spielen. Mitwirkende werden übrigens noch gesucht. Darüber, was künstlerische Formate und Strategien in urbanen Transformationsprozessen bewirken können, reflektiert eine Talking Heads-Runde am Mittwoch mit Vera Hagemann, Pia Hierzegger, Margarethe Makovec und Nicole Pruckermayr. Zur Nachschau und zum Ausklang ihrer Kulturjahr-Projekte laden der Grazer Kunstverein und Daniel Hafner.

Meins oder Deins? Was gehört wem? Teilen und Teilhabe? Solche Fragen stellen sich, wenn es um gemeinsames Bauen geht, aber auch ums Sammeln, das Verteilen, die Nutzbarmachung von Daten. Mit unseren Gästen Ulrike Schartner von gaupenraub +/-, mit Studierenden des Institut für Architektur und Medien der TU Graz, mit Wolfgang Köck, Rudolf Kohoutek, Burkhard Schelischanksy und Lisa Schmidt-Colinet werden wir sie erörten. Auch Michael Hieslmair und Michael ZInganel kommen vorbei und vielleicht hat Frau Sammer auch eine Meinung dazu. Synopsis: Der Film BELL VIE betrachtet in erzählerischer Weise die Folgen von Spekulation mit Grund und Boden und geht dabei der Frage nach, wie sich die Kapitalisierung von Wohnraum auf individuelle Schicksale und auf die Struktur ganzer Städte auswirkt.

Radio Helsinki kommt mit den Grazer Soundscapes und Christian Mayer und sein Team vom Kulturjahr 2020 verlegen für eine Woche ihr Büro in den Club.

Ein Modell ist eine pragmatisch reduzierte Abbildung, ein Muster, das vervielfältigt wird, eine Person, die jemanden als Vorlage dient, ein gedankliches Konstrukt natürlicher oder gesellschaftlicher Phänomene. Diese und andere Modelle gilt es diese Woche zu erkunden. In einer Talking Heads-Runde mit Markus Bogensberger, Bettina Habsburg-Lothringen, Eilfried Huth, u.a. etwa, oder mit dem Film Mock-ups in Close-up: Architectural Models in Film 1919-2014 von Gabu Heindl und Drehli Robnik. Seine ganz eigene Welt lässt unser Wochengast Franz Konrad auf der Fassade des Club Hybrid entstehen.

Zwei Themen, drei Residencies stehen diese Woche am Programm: Unter AHNUNG + PLANUNG mischen sich Stoiser Wallmüller Architekten und Kai Vöckler in die Debatte um die öffentliche Mobilität in Graz ein. Zum Thema “IT’S ALREADY THERE!” begibt sich Heidi Schatzl auf Spurensuche nach Eugen Szekelys Werk in der Grazer Amselgasse, während Franz Kapfer seine Rechtsextremismus-Sammlung im ehemaligen Gartenhaus des Clubs zugänglich macht.
Wir bekommen außerdem Besuch. Unter anderen von den Kuratoren des Österreich-Beitrags zur diesjährigen Architektur-Biennale, Peter Mörteböck und Helge Mooshammer, und dem GrazMuseum.

Zum Thema WILDES KOMBINIEREN sind unter anderen die Universität Innsbruck / Gestaltung 1, Beate Engelhorn (HDA Graz), Peter Fattinger, Andreas Gortischnig (Studio AG), Petra Petersson (TU Graz), Camera Austria, Anna Soucek (Ö1), Susanne Fritzer und Wolfgang Fejferlik (gat.st), Negar Hakim (TU Wien), KMT und Euroteuro zu Gast. Umgekehrt besucht der Club seinen Nachbarn, das Islamische Kulturzentrum.

Der Eintritt ist immer frei, die Kantine fast immer offen.

Zum Auftakt der Club Hybrid-Premiere wurde es erstmal nass. Nach einem ordentlichen Platzregen, der pünktlich um 18.00 losbrach, zeigte sich der Himmel aber schnell wieder von der freundlichen Seite und dann konnten wir auch mit unserer Eröffnungsgala loslegen.

Lorenz Seidler alias eSel moderierte sich furios und mit viel Improvisation durch die abendfüllende
Nachbarschaftstrophy, im Zuge derer zahlreiche Leihgaben aus der Nachbarschaft ihren Weg in den Club fanden.
Abgeholt von mit Handy-Kameras ausgestatten Runner*Innen, die Live-Bilder von ihren Exkursionen in den Club
zurück spielten.

Neighbourhood Trophy with eSeL
We invite locals from Gries and Puntigam to lend the Club Hybrid trophies that tell the story of how people live and work in the neighbourhood. In a lively Talk and Game Show, professionally hosted by cultural communicator eSeL (Lorenz Seidler), we will set out via live streaming video to collect these trophies in person – and to explore the neighbourhood together along the way.

The premiere will take place attended by Günter Riegler (City of Graz, City Councillor), Wolfgang Malik (Holding Graz, CEO and Chairman of the Board) and Christian Mayer (Programme Manager Graz Kulturjahr 2020).

On Tuesday 18 May, the Club Hybrid team invited visitors to the “Public Building Inspection” in Herrgottwiesgasse. It took place both online and due to Corona regulations with only a small group on site.

Among others, City Councillor for Culture Günter Riegler, Holding Graz CEO Wolfgang Malik and Christian Mayer, programme manager of Graz Kulturjahr 2020, paid us a visit. The district head of Gries Nina-Marie Wolf, the former building culture coordinator of the province of Styria Günter Koberg and the artists Franz Konrad and Stefan Lozar from the neighbouring Schaumbad were present as well. And not to forget companies involved in the ongoing construction process: employees of the company Steirerhaus from Weiz, and Albert Serschen managing director of the joinery Hobel & Späne from the district of Gries.

A Club Night on the winning project of the EUROPAN15 competition lies behind us. In this Europe-wide competition, young architects and planners develop ideas for current urban challenges. The project “47Nord15Ost” by winwinoffice was convincing for the designated area in Graz between Puchstraße and Mur in the centre of which Schaumbad, Freies Atelierhaus Graz is located.

Celia Cardona Cava and Luigi Costamagna approach the “Wasted Space and Space for Waste” of this hybrid zone between industrial plants and waste recycling, creative hubs and residential areas with a methodological analysis. The parameters based on this – densification, space for people, cooperative services and synergies between the actors –  create a well thought-out whole that nevertheless leaves plenty of room for more ideas.

The collaborative further development of “47Nord15Ost” on site has been interrupted due to the corona crisis. Therefore, it is even more important to bring all stakeholders back to the table as soon as possible. Iris Kaltenegger from EUROPAN Austria also emphasises this. These are the residents and current users of the area as well as all other relevant stakeholders and the city of Graz itself.

Club Hybrid will provide a platform for this continuation. Celia and Luigi Ende will be our guests at the end of July to continue working on their idea and to discuss it further with hopefully numerous participants.

“47Nord15Ost” is the name of a project by the Spanish-Italian collective for architecture and urban development winwinoffice for the Graz based area around Puchstraße and Freies Atelierhaus Schaumbad. This winning project of the EUROPAN15 competition on the topic of “productive cities” is more than a purely urban design. It aims to regenerate a piece of the city and create an identity that allows for a shared, mature and democratic way of life.

We are excited and looking forward to a presentation of “47Nord15Ost” by Luigi and Celia from winwinoffice at Club Night #18. Iris Kaltenegger, the Secretary General of EUROPAN Austria, will be joining as well.

Cold, wet, wintry conditions prevailed in Graz on Monday evening and thus also in Herrgottwiesgasse 161. However, our club evening takes place in all weathers and therefore it was possible to witness the ground-breaking ceremony in the dry. A few team members only attended the meeting in the construction container on site and also offered a somewhat “blown away” tour of the property and the construction site with camera.

Heidi Pretterhofer and Michael Rieper gave insights into the themes dealt with at Club Hybrid – from “Ahnung + Planung” on the ground question, speculation and improvisation to “It’s already there!” about what is already there, what are we building on and what role does Graz play. Here is an overview in the themes. The formats and some of the guests of the Club Hybrid in summer were also presented. In May the programme will go online.

Christian Mayer and the City Councillor for Culture Günter Riegler, as well as other participants, once again placed the demonstrative building and its themes in the context of the city and the Graz Kulturjahr 2020. As Günter Riegler put it nicely: with the Club Hybrid, a laboratory is being created for a common preoccupation with the resource of public space, and this is ultimately what is at stake in all questions of urban planning, densification, dedications, participation as well as in “how we want to live”, which is the theme of the year of culture.

In this sense, may the rain fog lift and the sun shine again. Especially in Herrgottwiesgasse where the Club Hybrid will take shape in the coming weeks. You can now follow the construction work live on our webcam –> Club Hybrid Webcam.

Herrgottwiesgasse 161––since last week, Club Hybrid has its own house number and now it’s finally time to get started: on Monday, the groundbreaking cut for our demontration building Club Hybrid will be set. Unfortunately, the current Covid-19 sanctions do not allow us to celebrate together on site, however, it is our wish to share this moment.

We are therefore moving the ground-breaking ceremony into virtual space and will be streaming live from Herrgottwiesgasse. Heidi Pretterhofer and Michael Rieper talk about the construction project and give a first preview of the programme in summer. We also welcome on site City Councillor for Culture Günter Riegler as well as Christian Mayer, programme manager of Graz Kulturjahr 2020. A different take on building. As artistic intervention, as an experiment in terms of sustainability and a living building culture, as a joint act. Building beyond economic constraints and market logic. This is the topic of our upcoming Club Night #16.

With the artist Folke Köbberling and the collective AKT, we have invited two representatives of such an experimental approach. Both of them will also be working and building at Club Hybrid during their residency in summer.

Markus Bogensberger will also accompany us through the evening. As a curator and architect, he was himself active at the interface of art and architecture for a long time, he was director of HDA Graz until 2019 and is now the building culture coordinator of the province of Styria

The guests of Club Night #15 come from very different backgrounds, what they have in common is an idealistic commitment to the appropriation and ongoing development of a venue. The location in the urban “foggy zone” in the south of Graz, where commerce, industry, housing and traffic sometimes collide, brings with it its own special conditions. However, the challenges are met with enthusiasm and ideas.

Investor Christian Kossegg, supported by his family, has been developing the approximately 3ha large Taggerwerk site, including a historic industrial building complex, for 10 years. By now he rents it out to around 60 tenants, from artists’ studios to start-ups to sports facilities. Fikret Fazlic runs the Islamic Cultural Centre Graz, a place of open religious and social interaction. With the construction of the mosque according to a design by Gerhard Springer, this area is also far from being fully developed. Further plans are due to being completed in near future. And finally, Helmuth Scheuch, who knows his district like the back of his hand. One of his major issues is traffic, he focuses on the extension of cycle and footpaths as well as public transport. Incidentally, the permeable calm of Herrgottwiesgasse is to be preserved according to his plans.

We take another look at the neighbourhood, this time in the immediate area: Fikret Fazlic, the imam of the mosque of the Islamic Cultural Centre Graz, is our guest at Club Evening #15. Also present is Christian Kossegg, who with the Taggerwerk has opened up a huge area of the district for various uses. And since Club Hybrid is located in the district of Gries, yet starts practically on Puntigam’s doorstep, we are also looking forward to Helmuth Scheuch, the head of the 17th district of Graz.

When friendships develop into professional partnerships, it is usually more than an expedient alliance. The interpersonal dynamic can be enormously inspiring and leads to corresponding creative output. Both the Theater im Bahnhof and studio magic, the guests of Club Night #14, are familiar with these happy hovering states of shared exchange and take-off.

However, working in a collective also means permanent negotiation and straddling between changing careers, the interests of individuals and the group, between precarious situations and the common also as a social network.

There were exciting insights: into the Theater im Bahnhof on the one hand, with its 30-year history, which has created social security with a basic income for its members. And on the other hand, the comparatively young architecture collective, which, although in the midst of production, is still searching for the social superstructure that corresponds to its way of working.

As for Club Hybrid the starting point for the idea of collective action is the venue. For Malte Höfner, who researches the topic of sharing in relation to urban space, this is an exciting approach, especially in this special urban area of Graz. What we all have in common is not only consuming, but also wanting to act and create in urban space, especially off uniformed city centres.

The Club Hybrid as a cooperative or association, these ideas still circulate in the thinking space of our open-use experiment. We continue therefore to think about forms of collaboration. What are good models for working as a collective? What is the common denominator and social umbrella? Collaborative producing? A space to share or a shared space? What are the social and economic implications?

We discuss questions like these in Club Night #14 with Malte Höfner, geographer and spatial researcher, Monika Klengel from Theater im Bahnhof and Patricia Wess and Thomas Kain from the architecture collective studio magic.

Gries is the “most screwed district of Graz” as Tristan Ammerer put it in Club Night #13. However, as became evident again this evening, there is indeed potential in this disadvantage. The hybrid coexistence in the foggy zone around the Club is the best example of this. Or “Triester”, a project by Martin Behr and Martin Osterider, who have been photographically documenting this “unsensational living space” for almost twenty years. This long-term visual journey, published by Camera Austria, already comprises fifteen volumes, and many of the motifs have become cult.

The struggle for green spaces, the enormous pollution caused by traffic and heavy industry, the socio-economic degradation of the district – these are the political issues in Gries today as they were then. District leader Nina-Marie Wolf (SPÖ) and her predecessor Tristan Ammerer (Grüne) are fighting on sometimes tough fronts for a better quality of life for Gries and its population, even if it is only a football pitch. Perhaps the Club Hybrid can also be an offer here in the future.

With Schaumbad, a highly active production space has been located in Puchstraße for years. The Freie Atelierhaus Graz began as a self-managed off-space and is now a professionalised art institution and workspace for around 50 artists and creative businesses. Schaumbad has long since expanded its exhibition space, reaching out into the foggy zone and becoming an artistic-social actor in its so called “Triesterviertel”.

In Club Night #12, Eva Ursprung and Franz Konrad gave insights into the diverse activities and external as well as internal challenges of this hybrid pool of activity. Its transformation is far from complete: the Schaumbad has just been reorganised with an own artistic director, and winwinoffice is about to redesign the area architecturally and in terms of urban development. The winning project of the “Europan 15” competition will be the subject of a separate Club Night.

Club Hybrid has not heard from for a long time. Everything is, because of corona, postponed for a year. On June 25, 2020, the foundation stone was laid at Herrgottwiesgasse 155/157 in the Gries/Puntigam district of Graz. Program concept, space concept and ideas where to dock were presented. Despite the rain it was a pleasure! Watch the video incl. drone flight over the property here.

We want to exchange with you and find out again how it looks like with the possible formation of association and cooperative. Who is interested in this? The club reports on the current status quo. Your involvement in network meetings and corresponding actions will continue to be at the center of the club hybrid life, which we also want to put on digital feet. What could the digital club look like?

The club is growing: Claudia Gerhäusser and Michael Sladek are new to the Club Hybrid team and introduce themselves.

Even if it didn’t rain or rained only a little before, at 18:00 the wind quartet of the Graz Linien played and raindrops fell from the sky. The following 90 minutes were a more or less humid happy event with some distance under several umbrellas or sunshades, which were provided by the helpful neighbours. So almost everything fit. Johannes Leitich successfully drew Beatrice Bucher’s distance concept and the outline of the Club Hybrid on the meadow the day before. Ten harvesting ladders were positioned so that the area was easily manageable. The Club Hybrid logo was positioned centrally. An ambitious setting, including setting a “Club Hybrid 2020” foundation stone.

Heidi Pretterhofer and Michael Rieper welcomed the guests, friends and participants to the public inspection in the rain and talked about the ambitious goals and programmatic priorities of the club. City councillor Günter Riegler, standing on a harvest ladder, spontaneously reported on the potentials of the various projects within the Kulturstadt Graz 2020. Wolfgang Malik, CEO of Graz Holding, also took part in the joint inspection. When the rain became less, Milan Mijalkovic climbed up a harvest ladder and recited “Kultur war Propaganda“. 

To ensure that the event is not forgotten, Ralo Mayer flew over the outline of the Club Hybrid and the network of routes before, during and after the rain. Another public inspection without rain will be made in summer, including harvesters and friends.

„Dieses Dazwischen, so Debray, ähnelt dem, was Bruno Latour ,Hybride’ nennt, also Mediationen, die sowohl technischer als auch sozialer und kultureller Natur sind. Um mit derartigen Kreuzungen und Vermischungen umzugehen, sind wir sehr schlecht ausgestattet. Mit anderen Worten, es besteht Nachholbedarf: Gefragt ist eine Typologie von Hybridisierungsformen im Spannungsfeld von Vermischung und Vermittlung.“ [3]

Even if everything should already be ready now and the future seems somewhat indescribable to us, we refer to the demonstration building that will be visible in a year’s time and its future scenarios. Harvest ladders will help to determine the dimensions and maintain an overview. Together we explore the area at Herrgottwiesgasse 155/157 and discuss the concepts of future uses. The place markings illustrate the boundaries and refer to the necessary personal safety distance of at least two meters

“Hybrid” is a nice word: starts at the bottom, “hy” and quickly ascends: “id”. Delicate consonants. Symmetry hyb-rid. But one shouldn’t be seduced by letters, as the virus so impressively demonstrates.

Cow bells with saxophone, church bells with drum&bass, door bells with piano accompaniment. Polonaise. Steel helmets and pyjamas for the opera ball. Canceled.

Computer with petals. Printer with cheese cubes. Books with screwdrivers. Table with empty boxes. Staging and trying out hybrid situations.

We fill a washing machine with different coloured clothes, plastic toys, food, washing powder and start a gentle cycle.

The planned film screening of “Der Stoff, aus dem Träume sind”, on March 18, 4:00 p.m. at the KIZ RoyalKino, will take place according to the guidelines of a maximum of 100 visitors. The Club Hybrid team will also be on site to answer any questions.

At the last meeting, the summer program, the various formats and the weekly schedule were presented again. Recommendations and ideas for the individual formats are welcome and will be collected by the Club Hybrid Team -> please send suggestions to club@clubhybrid.at.

In order to intensify the exchange of living and working opportunities within the group, a digital platform is being sought that meets the requirements. Examples include Matrix/Riot or Basecamp.

Furthermore, the association to be founded represents an opportunity for the club hybrid to continue even after 2020. For this purpose, actors are being sought who take on formal positions such as chairman, secretary and finances. The team also accepts suggestions and interested parties.

Review eighth info meeting on February 18, 2020, 6:00 p.m., Forum Stadtpark

In order to provide an overview of the points discussed to those who were unable to attend, there will always be a summary of the previous information evenings at this point:

At the beginning of the last meeting, Michael Rieper presented the schedule and program of the Club Hybrid. The Club Hybrid will start operating at Herrgottwiesgasse 157 from June 25, 2020 to September 13, 2020. The program is based on a weekly schedule consisting of workshops, lectures, discussions, residencies, group meetings, etc. The following six major topics are hereby taken up: It’s already there! / Idea + planning / Mine – yours Wildly combining / World + model / Play with things.

In addition, a platform is to be established, digitally (chat) and in physical form (billboard), to enable different groups to exchange information with one another, to search for new members or land / buildings as a common living or working space. Finally, the reformulated statutes of the association to be founded were discussed. The planned changes will be sent out in a newsletter before the next appointment.

The next meeting will take place on Thursday, February 27th, 2020, at 6:00 p.m. in the Kulturverein oag, Lendplatz 33, 8020 Graz.

At the last meeting we had a visit from two residents of the Willy * Fred house project in Linz. Florian and Micha described the career of Willy * Fred and how the project was organized structurally and financially. The HabiTAT organization and its forms of support for projects and groups were also presented.

The next meeting is dedicated to our association again, including a proposal of the statutes and possible future scenarios. There is also an overview of the Club Hybrid program in summer.

Eighth Meeting: Tuesday, February 18th, 2020, 6:00 p.m., Forum Stadtpark, Stadtpark 1, 8010 Graz

At the last meeting, we talked about requirements and needs in the context of working and living. In the joint brainstorming, the need for a structure for such a common project quickly became clear.

That means, we’re activating or creating an association!

At the next meeting, the following options will be discussed: founding a club, adopting existing structures or joining an association, such as a Habitat or Kumpanei. We are excited!

Thursday, January 30, 2020 at 5 p.m. at Printi, Mariahilferstr. 30, 8020 Graz.

Another information evening will take place on January 23, from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. in the Forum Stadtpark, Stadtpark 1, 8010 Graz. The aim of the evening is to define our needs and requirements for a future space. Working groups should explicitly explore room types, space requirements and needs so that they can later be based on concrete project ideas.

Another information meeting will take place on January 13, 2020, 6:00 p.m. at Forum Stadtpark, Stadtpark 1, 8010 Graz.

The second meeting was also the subject of intensive discussion and other potential locations were discussed. Also, autonomous initiatives and projects were presented and possible forms of organization of future residents were explored. Thanks to everyone involved!

Second event 10.12.2019, 18:00, Forum Stadtpark Salon

To clarify any questions, to find possible locations and to make further contacts, a second network meeting will take place on December 10 in the Forum Stadtpark, Stadtpark 1, 8010 Graz.

One of the premise of Club Hybrid is that the ideas, visions and dreams of an ideal living space can be controversial. Thanks for the interest and willingness to exchange ideas – first possibilities were outlined, ideological and generational conflict potentials were explored and first cooperations could be initiated. Another meeting takes place on 10.12. instead, information will follow soon. 

Looking for residents

After experimenting in alternative forms of living and working the project will transform into a hybrid demonstration building that will be developed in collaboration with its future users. Currently we are looking for participants and interested people, who want to take part in the “Club Hybrid” and help shaping it – and finally, peers who can imagine moving into the demonstration building and relocating their places of residence and work to the “Club”.
